A Myrtle Beach resident claims his HOA asked him to remove flags in HOA without explaining the issue. The lack of clarity from the HOA has left him frustrated and seeking answers.
Resident Asked to Remove Flags in HOA Sunroom
Larry Lang, who lives in The Isles at Bella Vita, says he received a violation notice about flags displayed in his sunroom. Lang moved into the community in May 2023 and began displaying flags on his screened porch a month later. These included a Trump flag, an Israeli flag, and a police flag, among others. He says they serve as sunshades and represent personal and sentimental values.
The HOA guidelines allow one outdoor flag on a 3-inch flagpole, limited to the U.S., South Carolina, or armed forces flags. However, Lang’s flags are displayed inside his sunroom, not outdoors. Despite this, he received a notice stating that all outdoor flags require committee approval, and only certain flags are federally protected.
Lang says he tried contacting the HOA multiple times for clarification but has not responded. His frustration stems from the ambiguity of the rules and the lack of communication. According to Lang, the guidelines do not address flags used as sunshades or clarify restrictions for indoor displays.
Lang is eager to understand the alleged violation and resolve the issue to avoid potential fines. However, without more transparent communication from the HOA, he remains uncertain about what steps to take.
