A Myrtle Beach Homeowners Association is still not providing a completion date for the public trail opening five years after the project began. The Grande Dunes Waterway Trail was announced in 2019 and will be a two-mile multi-use trail.
Grande Dunes Public Trail Announcement
Myrtle Beach is the home of the Grande Dunes, a 2,200-acre master-planned community in South Carolina. The community aims to have approximately 5,000 single-family residences upon completion. It would be comprised of single-family homes, home sites, and villas. Moreover, the community would even have 2 million square feet of commercial and retail properties.
Apart from these, the community planned to have several amenities. Among these included private and public clubs like golf courses, a private Members Club, and an 18-hole championship course designed by Nick Price/Craig Schreiner. The community members would enjoy beach access to the Atlantic Ocean. Homes within the community start from the low $200,000. Meanwhile, high-end residences can cost more than a million dollars.
In June 2019, the Grande Dunes announced the opening of the Grande Dunes Waterway Public Trail along the Intracoastal Waterway on Marina Parkway. The trail was supposed to be situated near the Grissom Parkway overpass across the Claire Chapin Epps YMCA rear exit. They had planned to connect it to the Marina Parkway multi-use trail. Upon opening, the public trail would be open to all from sunrise to sunset.
The public trail was supposed to be a two-mile multi-use trail. It would end at The Marina at Grande Dunes and connect to pedestrian walkways leading back to the Marina Parkway and the sidewalks of Grande Dunes Boulevard. Phase I consisted of the completed first half mile of the trail. The trail would prohibit motor vehicles to accommodate exercise enthusiasts and those who want to take a stroll to observe the waterway. There would be benches, distance markers, and shade structures for the public to use. Moreover, there would be water stations made just for dogs so owners could easily walk their beloved pets.
No Completion Date from Myrtle Beach HOA
In 2024, nearly five years after the announcement, the Homeowners Association on Myrtle Beach still won’t provide a completion date for the public trail. Currently, the walking trail is only two-thirds complete. Joshua Julian from the Waccamaw Management Homeowners Association said more information about the walking trail was provided to the HOA members. However, he had no comment when he spoke to News13.
