Following the destruction left by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, many Tennessee homeowners are facing insurance claim denials as they try to rebuild. In response, the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI) ensures insurers stay accountable during this critical time.
Tennessee Inspects Insurance Claim Denials
The TDCI has reminded insurers to submit claims data related to Hurricane Helene through the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. These reports, required monthly for six months starting November 5, will allow the state to monitor how claims are processed.
Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti emphasized that his office will closely review any denied claims to ensure fair treatment for consumers. Skrmetti affirmed that while the state expects insurance companies to honor legitimate claims promptly, they won’t hesitate to address instances where insurers fail to do so.
Tennessee residents who believe their claim was unjustly denied or have encountered other issues with insurers can file a complaint with the TDCI. Homeowners seeking assistance can reach out via phone, online, or mail for additional support. For additional information, homeowners can call (615) 741-2218 or 1-800-342-4029.
