Big E’s County Buffet and Seafood, a local restaurant in SC, recently temporarily closed its doors. The restaurant attributed the closure to challenges from the HOA across the street. However, nearby residents tell a different story regarding the reason behind the tension.
Local Restaurant in SC Shuts Down Due to HOA
The restaurant, located at 1250 E S.C. 9, stopped posting updates on social media in early October. A later post revealed that owner Breanna Chestnut would approach the Horry County Board of Zoning Appeals to seek approval for onsite alcohol sales and outdoor dining. Meanwhile, a sign on the restaurant’s door stated it was closed for repairs.
Chestnut expressed on Facebook that she faced opposition from the neighboring HOA. She claimed the entire HOA was against her business efforts. Attempts were made to contact Chestnut and Big E’s for further comments, but no response was received. HOA management reportedly isn’t directly involved in the dispute; only its members are involved.
Neighborhood Reports Disruptive Music and Late Hours
Residents of River Haven, a community near the restaurant, have shared concerns about noise from the establishment, especially since new management took over. Some residents, including Brandon Keenan, noted that loud music would play outdoors several nights a week. The noise would occasionally extend past midnight, making it difficult to work or sleep.
While residents like Keenan and Virgil Holman support the restaurant’s presence, they voiced frustrations about the noise levels. Keenan even launched a petition asking Big E’s to lower its music volume and limit hours. He shared that while he appreciates the business, it’s disruptive when the music feels more like a concert than a dining experience.
Although Big E’s responded online that they close by 10 p.m. and end music at that time, residents continue to seek a resolution for their peace and quiet.
