Nationwide, homeowners who purchased brand new D.R. Horton homes are experiencing a barrage of issues, raising concerns about safety and financial stability. However, beyond the physical problems, many homeowners feel let down by the homebuilder’s lack of communication and accountability.
Nationwide Complaints on D.R. Horton Homes
Customers from various states have shared their experiences, revealing a troubling pattern of poor construction quality. Texas homeowner Jayson Warren likened his home to a “time bomb.” Meanwhile, Georgia homeowner PJ Skipper expressed frustration over the poor build and subsequent costs of repairs.
These sentiments are echoed by homeowners in Florida, South Carolina, Nevada, Arizona, and California — who have all reported significant issues with their D.R. Horton homes.
In Texas, Warren’s wife suffered an injury due to uneven stairs not built to code, prompting the family to eventually sell their home. In Florida, Danielle Antonucci discovered mold and structural problems soon after moving in, leading to an ongoing struggle with the builder for necessary repairs.
Georgia homeowner Skipper described finding bent nails, defective plywood, and construction debris left behind. His efforts to resolve these issues through D.R. Horton’s warranty provider have been futile, forcing him to pay for repairs out of pocket.
South Carolina Concerns
Nikole Willis moved into her new home in Santee, South Carolina, in 2023. She reported issues with a stormwater pond behind her property, which has been consistently flooded and poorly maintained. Her attempts to address this with the homeowners association and D.R. Horton have been ignored.
An investigation into D.R. Horton’s practices in the Lowcountry highlighted similar complaints, revealing that county inspectors had signed off on homes with known problems. Homeowners in Lexington, Bluffton, Myrtle Beach, and Santee have all come forward with their stories of frustration and disappointment.
Homeowners are urging D.R. Horton to be held more accountable. They believe that local, state or even federal intervention is necessary.
Isaac Ortiz from Nevada, who discovered leaks and construction debris in his new home, has filed a complaint with the Nevada Attorney General but has not received a response.
Builder’s Response
In response to these widespread complaints, a spokesperson for D.R. Horton stated the following:
“We take great pride in the quality of D.R. Horton homes and have helped more than 1,000,000 individuals and families across the United States achieve the dream of homeownership. Our team takes all homeowner concerns very seriously and is committed to customer satisfaction. We encourage any D.R. Horton homeowner with concerns about their home to contact us at CorporateCustomerCare@drhorton.com so we can work to resolve any issues.”
Despite these assurances, many homeowners remain skeptical. They feel that D.R. Horton are not adequately addressing their issues and that the responsibility for repairs often falls unfairly on the homeowners themselves. As these stories unfold, the pressure mounts for D.R. Horton to improve its customer service and construction standards to restore trust among its clientele.
