Fire In Goose Creek
On May 20 at 1:56 a.m., the Goose Creek Rural Fire Department responded to a call and found a large fire on the first floor of a series of townhomes. The C & B Fire Department, Joint Base Charleston Fire Department, Hanahan Fire Department, and the Caromi Fire Department assisted them.
The fire in Goose Creek prompted two residents to jump from the second floor before the firefighters arrived. They sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were brought to local hospitals.
However, two other people were found dead on the second floor after the fire was under control. The victims included Milton M. Lazo Ordonez, 35, and Kenia Stefany Lazo Castro, 24, according to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office. Their bodies were sent for autopsies.
Meanwhile, the State Law Enforcement Division was requested to perform a fire investigation. Those who need help checking smoke alarms for fire safety can make a request for free from the local fire departments.
